dc.description.abstract | The major purpose of this study was to assess Teachers Records Management practices of Nebbi District Local Government central registry. In carrying out this study the researcher raised four research question that addressed the following objectives; To identify the types of teachers records created and kept in NDLG central registry, to find out the status of teachers records management practices in NDLG central registry, to investigate the challenges encountered in teacher’s records management practices in NDLG central registry, to recommend effective teachers records management practices of NDLG central registry.
The study sample population comprised of 4 registry staff that is one (1) SRO, two (2) ARO and one (1) RA. The instrument used by the researcher in data collection was interview guide and observation guide. The major findings of the study revealed that the types of teachers records created and kept by the central registry were mainly paper based records which included Biodata, ACR, copy of application form, acceptance letter, Assumption of duty, Copies of academic qualification, Posting Instruction, Promotional papers, appointment, Document related to Sick leave, Annual leave, Maternity leave, Bank detail, Disciplinary correspondence and so on. It also handles some records in electronic forms.
The findings also revealed the following records management practices; Records creation, Records Capture, registration, Records Classification, Records Retention, Records Storage, Tracking, File closure, Records Access and retrieval, transfer of records from active storage to the records centre and Records Disposition.
The study also revealed the challenges of; Inadequate storage facilities, Frequent transfer of Teachers, Workload for records personnel, Inadequate storage space, Dust, Inadequate stationaries, Poor quality file folders and over accumulation of files in the registry.
Based on these findings, the following recommendations were made; District should procure archival standard file folders, Separate filing cabinets for teachers, develop a retention and disposal schedule for teacher records, File numbers for teachers should be separate to allow consistency, Creation of enough space in the registry, Recruitment of more records staff, vote more funds to procure stationery, more storage facility and decongesting the registry by transferring the closed volumes files to records centre. | en_US |
