A marketing guide for information resources and services in St. Mbaag's major seminary Librrary, Ggaba

ABSTRACT This study aimed at designing a Marketing guide for library services of St. Mbagas’ Major Seminary Ggaba. The study objectives were; to establish the current status of marketing library services at St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba Library, to find out the type of library services available for marketing in SMMSG Library, to identify the methods for marketing library services at St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba Library, to find out the challenges faced in marketing library services and to design a marketing guide of library services for St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba Library. The study employed a case study research design and a sample of 4 librarians was purposively sampled from a population of 30 respondents which included 8 lecturers and 20 students. Interview and observation were the data collection methods during the study. The data was analyzed qualitatively and the results of the data analyzed revealed that there is a need for marketing St.Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba library services and its information resources is to achieve the objectives of the library and to enlighten the users on the relevance of library use. The study findings show that there is lack of funds and lack of facilities to market St.Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba Library services and information resources and it was also found out that major need for marketing information services at St. Mbaagas’ Major Seminary Ggaba library was to achieve the objectives of the Library and to enlight the users on the relevance of Library use. It was also evidenced from the findings that the major problems hindering effective Marketing of Library services and information resources include inadequate fund, lack of training in marketing, poor access to information technology and lack of facilities to market Library information services. The study recommended that more funds should be allocated to St. Mbaagas’ Major Seminary Ggaba library to ensure marketing of its information services. It was also recommended that trainings, workshops and seminars should be organized for librarians to enlighten them on how to market library services.
