dc.description.abstractA study was undertaken on assessing storage and security of records at Red Cross society Kampala North Branch. The objectives of the study were; to establish the current status of records storage and security at URCS-KNB, to find out how storage and security at URCS-KNB is managed, to identify challenges of Records storage and security at URCS-KNB, to make suggestions for the best practices in storage and security of Records at URCS-KN. The study used purposive sampling to select five people branch manager , records officer , administrative officer, branch accountant, branch secretary and data was collected using interviews, observation and document analysis. The study found out that URCS-KNB generates and stores different types of records that included; Annual reports, Blood donation Records, HIV Test records, Operational records, financial records, legal records, historical records, attendance registers, appraisal forms, letters, leave forms, disaster management records, first aid management records internship reports and volunteers records. In management of records storage and security the study found out that URCS-KNB had professional staff to manage records storage and security it was also revealed that URCS-KNB had a secure budget for the records department and procedure manual for managing records storage and security. On the challenge of records storage at URCS-KND the study found out poor storage equipment and storage areas where as record security the study discovered weak password, inadequate security technology. In regard to suggestion to best practice in records storage and security the respondents suggested; tightening of security checks, installing of security monitoring systems as solution to records security and digitization of records purchasing of modern records storage equipment as solution to records storage. The study recommends that Red Cross Society Kampala North Branch should Digitize their records, should develop a retention and disposition guide, increased funding to buy more storage and security equipment , develop a disaster management and security of records so as to boost the records storage and security at the URCS-KNB.en_US
