dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to assess the management of administrative records at UNMA in order to ensure their timely access for decision-making. The study objectives were to assess the different types of administrative records kept, to assess the records management practices on administrative records, to establish the challenges faced in managing administrative records and to propose and recommend the best management practices for managing administrative records at UNMA. The study was a case study that adopted a qualitative research approach with interviews, observation and document analysis as data collection methods. A sample of 30 respondents was used and only 14 respondents were interviewed. The study found out that work plans, performance appraisal forms, minutes and reports are the major administrative records generated at UNMA, these records are classified, stored and retrieved, lack of approved records management policy, limited space and inadequate skilled staff are major challenges affect the proper implementation of records management practices at UNMA, enlargement on the storage space, employing mere skilled staff and introduction automation program are the major recommendations that should be done to improve the state at which records are kept at UNMA. The study concluded that If UNMA introduces automation programs, employing more skilled staff and expand on the storage space it would help to manage the growing creation of administrative records and facilitate easy access to information for decision-making. The study recommended that UNMA should introduce automation program, employ more skilled staff and expand on the storage space to effectively manage the growing creation of administrative records and facilitate easy access to information for decision-making.en_US
