dc.description.abstractThe study was assessing how records storage and security at Omuntu W’omunda Child Development Centre was carried out. The objectives of the study were: to establish the current status of records storage and security at Omuntu W’omunda Child Development Centre ,to find out how records storage and security at Omuntu W’omunda Child Development Centre is managed ,to identify the challenges of records storage and security at Omuntu W’omunda Child Development Centre, to make suggestions for the best practices in records storage and security at Omuntu W’omunda Child Development Centre The study purposively sampled 14 members of staff comprising of the 1 records officer, 5 Assistant Records Officers, 5 action officers/users and 3 administrators affiliated to the Records at Omuntu W’omunda CDC. Data was collected using: interview, observation and document analysis. Data was analysed by categorising it into themes. The major findings of the study revealed that there were various categories of records at OWCDC including electronic records and these included minutes, annual and monthly reports ,financial records such as budgets and for paper records there were beneficiaries /children records, audit reports, work plans and also child protection files ,annual reports among others.. The study further indicated that there was inadequate resources such as records storage equipment, records security equipment, inadequate space for records storage .There was no disaster management plan or a proper records storage and security policy. It was recommended that the management of Omuntu W’omunda CDC should adapt to an off site storage system provide more resources towards records storage and security in terms purchasing strong metallic shelves, more computers to boost up on the paper records storage and also intruder detection machines, alarm systems and also fire extinguishers to ensure the security of the records and also tracking of files. The study hence concluded that allocating more funds towards improving records storage and security is part of the greater records management function as a way to close up the gap in records storage and security at Omuntu W’omunda Child Development Centre.en_US
