dc.description.abstractThis study aimed at management of personnel records in the ministry of local government, the objectives were to To identify the types of personnel records a kept at Ministry of Local Government, To examine the management of personnel records at Ministry of Local Government, To find out the challenges faced in managing personnel records at Ministry of Local Government, To identify and recommend best practice measures for improvement on the management of personnel records at Ministry of Local Government. The study used the case study whereby the molg’s registry was selected as a study case.data were collected through interviews, observation and document review, the sample had 15 respondent obtained through simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. The study revealed that the challenges associated with the management of personnel records at molg include absence of organizational plans for managing electronic records, low awareness of the role of records management in supporting organizational efficiency and accountability, lack of stewardship and co-ordination in handling paper-based as well as e-records, absence of legislation, organizational policies and procedures to guide the management records, absence of core competencies in records and archives management, lack of appropriate facilities, unfavorable environmental conditions for storage and preservation records, absence of dedicated budgets for records management, poor security and confidentiality controls, lack of records retention and disposal policies, absence of migration strategies for e-records. The study also revealed that to larger extend the systems used in keeping personnel records at molg is effective a certian extent the staff of record management are satisfied with the way their records are kept and to a large extent the personnel records kept in molg have important qualities needed.en_US
