dc.description.abstractBackground: Physical Activity (PA) is an essential component of health through the myriad health benefits it confers to people who engage in sufficient amounts. Physical inactivity is a global pandemic as it is one of the leading risk factors for global mortality. Prevalence of physical inactivity inUganda is 5.5%. In India, individuals are mostly categorised inactive especially women. Prevalence rates for physical inactivity are virtually unknown for Indian women in Uganda also, there are limited investigations that have looked at their physical activity practises. This study aims at assessing the physical activity levels and the various determinants of PA among the Indian women aged 20-50 years living in Uganda. Methods: The study adopted a cross sectional survey design. The study targeted 80 Indian Women aged 20-50 years living in Uganda. Data was collected using a self-administeredquestionnaire. Anthropometric measurements of weight and height of the women were measured according to a standard protocol. The nutrition status of the women was determined using BMI. The physcial activity levels of the women were assesd using the IPAQ short form and results were computed using the IPAQ guidelines.The obtaineddata wasinterpreted, analyzed and presented usingStatistical Package for Social Sciences software (SPSS)using V.24.0. Results: Majority (60%) of women were aged between 30-39 years, their highest level of education was a Bachelor’s degree 42.5%. ). Most women are housewives 85.8%and married are 93.8%. 91.3% of women aren’t diagonised with NCDs and 48.8% of them rated their health status as “good”. Most (36%) of the women’s BMI status is Obese.Overall, 66% of women had low PA levels, 28% had moderate and only 6% of the respondents had high PA levels. The mean Knowledge score was 6.50. Major motivators included exercise to be; beneficial (100%), made them physically fit (98.8%) helped them in releasing stress and feel better (98.8%), made them look in better shape (95%), among others. Common barriers included; not having access to comfortable environments (85%), lack of time (65%), lack of access to information regarding PA (76.3%) among others.Only aceess to facilities (p<0.016) showed a significant association with physical activity. Conclusion:Indian women living in Uganda mostly have low physical activity levels and high prevalence of overweight and obesity. These women have sufficient knowledge regarding PA but put it less into practise.en_US
