dc.description.abstractIn recent years, records security breaches are increasingly becoming more prevalent in academic institutions across diverse countries in the world.Academic institutions are seen as an "easy target" for cyber-attackers because the technologies used to manage their records are exposed to security threats and lack privacy, the culture of openness to access to records. This report presents a study about records security in East African Civil Aviation Academy-Sorotiis one of the Flying School which was manned by the indigenous East Africans and now Uganda. It identifies the different records kept, assesses the security of records, and scrutinizes the challenges affecting records security and finally assessesthe ways of improving the challenges to records security.This study involved the use of case study research design and qualitative research paradigm approach. The data were collected using interviews and observations and analyzed using narrative and interpretive approach.The study findings indicated that EACAA-Soroti keeps both electronic and paper records like bank statement, paying slips, cash books and receipts, minutes of executive meetings, correspondences, annual reports, letters for tours, sales records of goods and services, inventory, technical records among others. The academy uses antivirus software, CCTV cameras, back-ups among others to secure their records. However, inadequate funds, training, space still remain a concern challenge to records security in EACAA-Soroti. The central larger space to handle the records, regular backups, centralized database, regular training of staff on records security were recommended as ways of improving security in EACAA-Soroti.en_US
