dc.description.abstract | The major purpose of this study was to assess record storage management system in the department of records at Lubaga Hospital. In carrying out this study, four (4) research objectives which included toidentify the various types of records generated and managed at the hospital, to examine the current records storage methods used, to find out the challenges faced in records storage and to suggest possible solutions to improve records storage management in the hospital.
A sample size of twenty respondents was selected using purposive sampling technique of which ten of them responded. The respondents include one senior records officer, three records clerks, one senior administrator and five records assistants’ staff. It was qualitative in nature and data was collected using the interview and observation method.
The major findings of the study revealed that records storage management comprised of storage equipment like metallic lockable cabinets, metallic and wooden shelves and archival boxes, box file folders, the filing systems like alphabetical, alpha-numerical and the numerical filing systems, records storage procedure and practices and it was mainly manual, records storage management was characterized by challenges like inadequate records storage equipment, inadequate security for records, limited records storage space, inadequate backup space ,misplacement and misfiling of records through carelessness of the workers thus leading to the delays in service delivery. The solutions to the challenges as suggested by respondents included improvising means to secure records from premature destruction, theft, loss, and un authorized access, proper filing of the records and the need to automate the records management process.
Basing on the findings of the research, the improvement in storage management of medical records at Lubaga Hospital would effectively solve the challenges faced as most of the objectives would have been met. | en_US |
