dc.description.abstractIn the study, a descriptive research design was used to cater for the dance and social context. Samia cultural dances were collected from traditional elders, who were also, interviewed using a questionnaire. Purposeful sampling techniques were used to select dances. They were recorded, transcribed and analyzed for dominant traditional dance features. In the creative phase, lyrics were identified and reorganized, the prevalent features isolated and used. The result was a compositional inspiration on which the studio exploration of samia cultural dances through hand woven artworks were discussed. The ultimate product of the study was the samia dancers using samia traditional dance idioms; accomplished through the traditional dances. To safeguard contextual and dance fidelity, member checking was consistently maintained during data collectionen_US
