dc.description.abstractThe research project was carried out at Kalinabiri Secondary School Library in Ntinda-Kampala. The project was to develop strategies for effective collection development for Kalinabiri Secondary School Library. The objectives of the project were to identify different collections provided by Kalinabiri senior Secondary School Library, to find out whether there is a collection development policy that reflects all activities concerning the collection management processes that is community analysis, policies, selection, acquisition, weeding and evaluation, to identify challenges faced in collection development process of Kalinabiri senior Secondary School Library and to recommend strategies for effective collection development for Kalinabiri senior Secondary School Library. Literature review related to collection development, collection development strategies in school libraries. The researcher used different methods in collecting data which include: interviews and questionnaire. The researcher used interview guide and questionnaire guide as research instruments. The researcher used qualitative method in collecting data from three library staff and twenty seven students using both interview and questionnaire guide as the research instruments/tools. Findings show that Kalinabiri secondary school library comprises of mainly textbooks, past papers. Also revealed that Kalinabiri secondary school library does not have strategies for effective collection development and as a result the library faces a number a number of challenges when fulfilling the needs of users which include inadequate funding, information explosion, vandalism of information materials by students. Findings also revealed that most of the materials are donations from government and other organizations like MTN, whites. Therefore the following were suggested; recommending strategies for effective collection development for Kalinabiri secondary school library to guide them in the process of building the library collection that is information user need analysis, library consortium.en_US
