dc.description.abstractThe idea of records management, seeks to properly, efficiently and effectively manage all forms of records, either in their tangible or non-tangible format, created and received by organizations and individuals, in the process of business transaction. This is because records are important assets in ensuring that institutions operate efficiently in an accountable and productive manner. They hence support decision making, provide evidence of policies, transactions and activities of KDLG in cases of fraud. This is because, many cases have been witnessed, where there has been misplacement of records under unclear circumstances particularly teachers records. The research dissertation entitled “Assessment of the security ofteachers’ records in Kumi district local government” was directed by the following objectives: To find out the different types of teachers records being managed: To find out the security threats to the teacher’s records: To find out security measures that can be implemented to protect the records. The study reveals that the types of records generated and maintained includes but not limited to administrative, personnel financial records, among others. The storage facilities available are open shelves, file cabinets, boxes, computers, cupboards and file folders. Security threats to the records are misplacement of records, unprofessionalism, unauthorized disposition, manipulation of the records, unauthorized access/hackers. The strategies for securing the teachers records include restrictive access, emergency exits, use of tracing cards, use of locks, passwords and anti-viruses on electronic records. The challenges faced in managing security of teacher’s records at department of education in Kumi local government include limited storage facilities, inadequate security awareness, limited personnel and overwhelming biological agents. The study also realized that the management of security for teacher’s records at Kumi local government is lacking and thus tried to clear this obstacles.en_US
