Assessment of financial records management at St .Francis Hospital Nsambya
Abstract
Records management seeks to efficiently and systematically control the lifecycle of records that are routinely generated as a result of activities and transactions. Records are a vital asset in ensuring that the institution is governed effectively and efficiently, and is accountable to its staff, students and the community that it serves. Records are used for evidence purposes, decision making and support the organization in cases of ligation.
There are many instances at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya whereby financial records have been reported to be missing or misplaced therefore raising a question on how records are managed and what system and policies are used in terms of records management. This dissertation sought to assess financial records management at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya focusing on the objectives which are; categories of financial records, management of financial records, challenges of financial records management and possible solutions to the problems facing financial records management at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya.
The study used the survey research methods, with the interview guide as the primary data collection instrument. The study targeted both administrative and academic employees at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. Purposive sampling was used to select academic Heads of department and administrative employees. The study recommends the establishment of a records management training program for staff and automation of the records management system.
