dc.description.abstractThe study was carried out from Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited particularly in the Archive on Management of records. The objectives were to identify the types of records managed, to examine the management of records, to establish the challenges faced, propose strategies to address the problems faced in the management of records at Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited archive. The study adopted the descriptive research design. The total population of the study area was four hundred twenty four members and the target population was made up of thirty members. Data was collected through observation, interviews and document analysis. A sample size of fifteen respondents was selected purposively that is one human resource, one archivist, two records officers, one IT clerk, three users, one secretary, three departmental heads, one assistant archivist and two support staff members. The challenges faced were no surveillance cameras and alarms, no printer, uncontrollable dust, few equipments, staff and users were not sensitized on the importance of records, there was no active retention schedule in the UETCL Archive. The findings revealed that the archives was at the same time the records center hence it managed both semi-current and non-current records. The storage equipments used where metallic shelves boxes, automobile shelves however records of special format were also catered for since they were stored in vertical shelves. The study recommended the installation of surveillance cameras and alarms, recruitment of more staff in the archive, division of the archival building into parts, purchasing of equipments such as printers, shelves, sensitization of the importance of records and the archives to both the staff and archives users and training of all staff members not only those in the records department but the entire UETCL and the newly recruited staff members.en_US
