An Information resources security plan for Albert Cook Memorial Medical Library Mulago (ACL)
Abstract
The study proposed an information resources security plan for Albert Cook Memorial Medical library. The objectives of the study were to Identify categories of information resources in Albert cook Memorial Medical library, also to identify the security measures established to safe guard information resources at the library, the factors responsible for the Insecurity of the information resources and lastly to develop a plan in response to the information resources challenges that Albert Cook library encounters. The population of the study was 22 of which 3 were librarians and the 19 were assistant librarians. The size was all the Librarians and 13 out of the 19 assistant librarians.
The findings revealed that information resources at Albert Cook Memorial library include print information resources, multimedia information resources, archives and e -resources. The information security mechanism at Albert cook memorial medical library are closed access for rare books, a separate storage for archives, a single exist and entrance, library users leaving their bags with the security guards paying 100 which entitles them to a cards whereby one is attached on the bag and the other is given to the user, stamping of information resources with Albert cook stamp.
The information resources security breaches that were place in Albert Cook Memorial Medical library were mutilation a case in point plucking of papers from books, theft of books evidence to this is the fact that books with Albert Cook stamp are being sold out by street venders. All these library crimes are as result of absence of CCtv cameras, lack of tattle detecting machine, inadequate supervision, Open access information resources which are freely attained by the users without any control. The project concluded that library should and needs to install CCtv cameras, install a tattle detecting machine at the entrance, carry out strict supervision.
