The study aim was to design a Collection Development Policy for Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary School Library and its objectives were to examine the current Status of Collection development in Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary Library, to find out the challenges of a collection development Policy in Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary Library and to develop a CDP for Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary Library. The study involved three data collection methods which included questionnaire, interview, and observation method. The study population size was 50 from which a sample size of 33 was selected. The researcher used case study design, qualitative approach, descriptive survey and purposive and convenient sampling technique techniques in collecting data. The study revealed that Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary School library holds a total collection of about 40,000 textbooks and most of the school library information resources are acquired either by purchase, gift or donation. The information resources are in print, electronic and others audiovisual. Selection, Planning, Public relations and serving as a road map for developing the library collection are the major functions of a CDP. The study findings show that, the problems of collection development are created mainly for three reasons: inadequate financial resources, non-availability of right materials in the market and shortage of accommodation or space for keeping the library holdings or ever increasing collection of the library. The major challenges to collection development in Wmpeewo Ntakke Secondary school library include complicated procurement and preservation system, technological obsolescence, no-compatibility of school culture to digital environment, financial constraints, resistance to change, fragility of library collections, decentralization of library services and access related problems. The major functions of a collection development policy in Wampewo Ntakke Secondary School library include guide selection, guide planning, guides public relations, guides needs assessment, helps in budgeting, guides acquisitions and de-selection of library collections. The study concluded that the Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary School Library lacks a clear formulated policy which can be followed whenever there in need to add on the Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary School Library collections. Since this policy can act as guidelines that show what can be added and what not to be added on the collection. Finally the study recommends use of the designed collection development policy to guide on which information resources to include in the library collections and those to exclude. The funds allocated to the library department in Wampeewo Ntakke Secondary School should also be increased so as to purchase the required information resources that can meet user’s needs. Also the library space should be increased to meet the growing library collections since a library is a growing organism.en_US
