A newspaper index for Kampala Library and Information Center
Abstract
The study aimed at designing a newspaper index for Kampala Library and Information Center.
The objectives of the study were to; examine the current services offered at Kampala Library and Information Center, establish the challenges faced with the current index at Kampala Library and Information Center, examine the necessary requirements for designing a newspaper index for Kampala Library and Information Center and design a newspaper index for Kampala Library and Information Center.
The study adopted a case study research design while using qualitative data analysis for collecting data and analysis. The study comprised of 30 respondents.
Based on the findings, the study concludes that Library patrons of the Kampala Library and Information Center have an informational gap (need) for example they need update library materials, adding more library materials to the section, extending the closing hours, accessing the Library 24/7. However the Kampala Library and Information Center is doing a good work in providing library services but there are lots of challenges that are hampering the Newspaper indexing these library services for example the small space in which they operate in, a few library librarians , operating on limited funds and a problem of unpublicized that is to say a few Ugandans know which services they offer , its location hence a need for a newspaper indexing system to match with current trends, serve global users, publishing the Library in order to reduce on the current challenges so that the users maximally enjoy the benefits of the library resources and accessing library services 24/7 anywhere.
