dc.description.abstractA study was carried out to examine records storage and retrieval at Kayunga District Local Government registry. The study objectives were; To establish the current status of records storage and retrieval at Kayunga District Local Government Registry, To find out how records storage and retrieval at Kayunga District Local Government Registry, To identify the challenges of records storage and retrieval at Kayunga District Local Government Registry, To make suggestions for the best practices in records storage and retrieval at Kayunga District Local Government Registry The study used a case study design which is the overall strategy that a researcher chooses to integrate the different components of the study in a coherent and logical way, thereby, ensuring you will effectively address the research problem, the data collection methods included questionnaires, observation and data analysis. The sample was of 10 respondents, Data was collected among observation, interview and data analysis guide whereby the researcher interviewed people working with the registry and the ways on how they store and retrieve records at the district. The findings revealed that the current records storage and retrieval system at Kayunga District Local Government Registry is manual and majority of the records are in paper form. However there are few records managed through computers, wooden cupboards, Lateral cabinets, record storage boxes, out and in trays and box files. It was found out that there exists different problems associated with records storage and retrieval system and these are; inadequate storage space, inadequate storage facilities, under staffing, The study recommended the training of staff on records management to enable officers at all levels to appreciate the importance of managing records in an organization. The researcher also recommends KDLGR to purchase more record storage equipment such as computers hardware software, filing cabinets and shelves and should be of high quality for proper management of.en_US
