The study covered background to the study, statement to the problem, the main objectives of the study, specific objectives of the study, research questions and scope of the study, justification of the study and the definition of operational terms. The study was undertaken to evaluate records creation, storage and security at Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) located on plot 97/99 Jinja road 3rd street Lugogo, Kampala district. It was centered on the following objectives below; to identify the categories of records created and managed, assess how records are stored, secured from unauthorized access, examine the challenges of records, creation, storage and security, suggest ways to improve on the records storage and security at DIT. The study adopted a case study design. Data was collected using interviews, observation and document analysis. A sample size of ten respondents was selected using purposive sampling where 2 human resource officers, 2 records officers, 2 secretaries, 2 accountants and 2 procurement officers. The study findings revealed that there were few records staff and also few respondents were aware of policy and procedures of records creation, storage and security. The facilities used to store records included; files, filling cabinet, computers and shelves. However, records storage facilities were not enough to meet the need of DIT. Space was not enough to keep both current and semi current records at the same place. There was also lack of training of staff on better and proper records storage and security practices, however. The study recommended that DIT should consider re-allocating or expanding the registry, increasing registry funding and fully automating and computerizing its records management functions to enhance service delivery to all its stakeholders. More so, DIT should consider training for all staffs within the department and also provision of adequate storage equipment.en_US
