The aim of the study was to come up with guidelines for enhancing information literacy at Kololo High School. The researcher used descriptive method because the study is in case form. This design enabled the researcher to describe the issues as they exist without controlling any condition. Data cleaning was performed on the data to ensure that information presented is accurate complete and consistent. All study instruments were subjected to the recommendation of the supervisor and pre-tested before they are employed in the study. Respondents’ view on the current library and information services offered was necessary to enable the researcher in acquiring knowledge of how to come up with proposed guidelines should be. Views were collected through conducting individual interviews, direct observations. The findings revealed that the KHS library provides book loans to students. This is where by student borrow books/information materials from the school library and return them after a limited period of time. The maximum time for holding a book was said to be five days and each student can borrow a maximum of 5 books a day. The findings also revealed that users/students access and retrieve information resources including, books, ministerial reports, project reports, pamphlets, journals, Newspapers, records, among others from either shelves, storage boxes, file folders, cabinets. It was further observed that the above information materials are registered using a simple cataloguing system where all information about the library collection is registered in a book through which the users search for the information materials they want. The KHS library also offers a conducive reading facility to accommodate students who would like carry out research with reference from dictionaries, encyclopedia that are offered by the library. The KHS library provides photocopying services which helps users to obtain personal copies of the information materials in the library. The challenges faced in the provision of information literacy services at KHS library included; inadequate orientations, inadequate literacy equipment, inadequate information materials in the library, lack of adequate training to users, inadequate library staff leading to insecurity of information materials and limited funds. The respondents therefore suggested that the KHS teaching staff encouraged the students/users to visit the library more often thorough giving them assignment that require them to do research in the library.en_US
