dc.description.abstractThis research was probably undertaken to identify the techniques of painting among the students of Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA). The study was carried out using a descriptive design of collecting data from different respondents which included the lecturers and the students doing painting. Data from both primary and secondary sources were collected using questionnaires, interview and observation as well to analyze it and interpret it accordingly. The research basically focused on how to gain new painting skills or techniques among students’ paintings at MTSIFA through painting under their themes of their own choices, to have a scrap book basically for the research material and also to have a sketch book for their sketches before they are transferred on their canvases which is intended to be one of the techniques painting students of MTSIFA would use while painting and their paintings to be easily exhibited in different galleries across the country including the art gallery of MTSIFA at Makerere university. This research therefore employed both quantitative and qualitative aspects of data collection and analysis. In this case, questionnaires were probably used and the respondents were sampled and the questionnaires administered to them. During research, the perception of the audience towards the paintings and how people appreciate it depends on the artist’s ability to put it into consideration and practice to make a better and a modern painting. Basing on the study findings and conclusions, the study recommended that more attentions should be accorded to the students of painting and also illustrating for them right away from year one to year three of their study easily to capture the new painting techniques. This can be through conducting more practical painting exercises and assignments as well.en_US
