The study was carried out at Busunju town council,Hoima road Mityana District with an ideology of designing procedures for the safety and security of records. Generally the research was to find out how records are generated, the possible threats to the records, the existing safety and security procedures and examining g requirements for safety and security procedures. This helped in answering the research questions and meeting the objectives of the study.
Good records management will promote efficient and effective organizational performance in ways such as ensuring records safety and security, regulatory compliance, minimizing litigation risks, support making of informed decisions by providing timely and sufficient information, promoting accountability among others. The aim of the study is to assess records management threats and procedures in Busunju Town Council with a view to develop procedures for the safety and security of records. The study was a case study and quantitative in nature and it used questionnaires, Document review and interview guide as instruments of collecting data. Questionnaires were the key data collection tools used but they were supplemented by interviews. Some of the key findings of the study included; Busunju Town Council has not implemented records safety and security procedures, lack of adequately trained records management staff. It is out of those findings that the study proposed new records safety and security procedures for Busunju Town Council.
The researchers recommend the staff at BTC to understand and follow the procedures so that the security and safety of the records is well addressed because these procedures intend to help Busunju town council.
