ItemFactors influencing profitability of honey production among small holder farmers in Magamaga Sub County, Abim District(Makererere University, 2024-08) Achuda, SamuelThe purpose of this study was to analyzethe factors influencing the profitability of honey production among small holder farmers in Magamaga sub-county, Abim District. A random sample of honey producers was interviewed four parishes of Magamaga sub-county namely Moyangaparish, Koya parish, Wilela parish and Gulotworo parish from the target population. Descriptive statistics was used to characterize honey producers by the extent of their social, economic characteristics and a linear regression analysis was used to examine the factors that affect the profitability honey production. The findings show that Age, Group membership, education Level number of bee hives and Kilogram of honey produced had a positive and significant influence on profitability. The results also revealed that Gender, and experience in honey production had a negative but significant influence on profitability. However, the study also found out that weather issues, lack of market information, high prices of inputs, lack of access to credit facilities, lack of extension services, lack of value addition to their products and high transportation costs to the markets are a significant challenge in honey production.Thestudy recommendations women to participate in honey Production this study recommends providing of timely market information on honey production majorly market information such as changes in prices of inputs, honey, and other products through establishing platforms for information exchange in order to create awareness among honey producers and prevent them from being exploited, it also facilitates easy access of the necessary services required to boost honey production. The study recommends enhancing promoting Education and Skill Development: Recognizing the positive correlation between education level and profitability, initiatives should be undertaken to promote education and skill development among traders. This could involve partnerships with educational institutions to offer vocational training programs or workshops focused on enhancing entrepreneurial skills, market knowledge, and business management acumen. By investing in education and skill development, honey producers can enhance their competitiveness and adaptability in the market.
