ItemThe application and decoration of Spacio car dashboard with hand woven fabric(Makerere University, 2014-05-19) Isabirye, BenardThis focuses on the application and decoration of car dash board with hand woven products. The study was carried out around Ndeeba and Najjanankumbi were I carried out an informal interview from two correspondents with the help of an interview guide. However the interview helped me get what I wanted in form of people’s view and attitude towards the hand woven fabrics in relation to power woven fabrics. Therefore opportunity was created for hand woven products for car interior decoration on parts like the dash board. I hope that the study will create environment awareness to weaving students; help crafts men to expand their market and production, future reference for the future researchers, provide a room for the clients to enjoy their tastes and preferences through the direct contact with the artist/designer and also shall provide the researcher with a basic stand towards the formulation of new advancements of incorporating natural fabrics in relation to power woven products in car interior designing.

Mayer Hilder (1942) etching being one of the relief prints process invaded with an aim to produce many copies out of the original copy. The study was set on purposively three major objectives; first being to establish the prospects of etching print making, secondly was to find out why the level of students performance shows a lot to be desired in the section of etching printmaking and third but not least was to find ways on how students can overcome the will be underlying challenges so as to make their prints reach the market demand standards. For this study; the researcher basically looked at etching printmaking as a method of print making at Margate trowel school of industrial and fine art. the study was conducted through a descriptive design by using a cross sectional study whereby it was a kind of research that involved random selection of students who did printmaking as a course at Margate trowel school of industrial and fine art. This researcher in this study employed purpose sampling to select the students. The study rotated in a population of students 10 to 15 respondents that targeted mainly students of printmaking at Margatetrowel school of industrial fine art. Clear justification and description of the study findings were presented based on the set study objectives through field research upon which the researcher provided as distinguished conclusion based on the descriptive research design set to analyze etching printmaking at Margate trowel school of industrial and fine art. ItemRoad sign and their uses in Wandegeya.(Makerere University, 2017-06-05) Kabanda, Faizol LwanyagaThis paper presents an automatic road sign detection and recognition system that is based on a computational model of human visual recognition processing . Road signs are typically placed either by the roadside or above roads. Road signs are used by road users along Wandegeya to ease the navigation of passengers and the other road users like drivers and motorists. They provide important information for guiding, warning, or regulating the behaviors of drivers in order to make driving safer and easier. The proposed recognition system is motivated by human recognition processing. The system consists of three major components; sensory, perpetual, and conceptual analyzers. The sensory analyzers extract the spatial and temporal information of interest from the video sequences. The extracted information then serves as the input stimuli to a spatial temporal attentional neural network in the perceptual analyzer. If stimulation continues, the focus of attention will be established in the neural network. Potential features of road signs are then extracted from the image areas corresponding to the focus of attention. The extracted features are net fed into the conceptual analyzer. The conceptual analyzer is composed of two modules.

ItemBasketry in Buganda.( 2017-06-05) Nabukenya, AngellaTraditional Ganda history begins with Kintu the legendary founder of the royal dynasty. The “Baganda falls into the “Bantu” group in the classification of the races of Africa” “They belong to mixed type which is characterized by a greater variability in skin colour, lighter brown shades often encountered….. the variation is explained by the way Buganda expanded to her present size” Complements Muzzanganda A. Lugira-(1970:15). The Uganda’s history has been determined by the ethnic differences for its people. Biauer Laurereports that; “…40 district cultural groups each with its own language can be hard on radio…. Luganda is the language spoken by the Baganda who at 16% of the population make up the largest ethnic group in the country.” In slave owing societies, craftsmen must have been slaves doing the heavy tasks. With a vanishing rural life, due to urbanization, some craft movements have been formed to conserve and to preserve the existing I crafts (basketry).

ItemRefocusing appreciation towards visual arts in Kampala( 2017-11-24) Masika, HildahKampala is center of visual arts in Uganda, and yet the appreciation from the public (biggest percentage) towards the arts is still staggering. This has forced most artists to turn to neighboring Kenya and the western- European countries since they offer more exposure, opportunities and the welcome their country (Uganda) can’t offer. In finding reasons for the low public appreciation, the survey seeks to answer questions on; challenges and setbacks artists are facing in response to the low appreciation and how to change this perception. Structured questions were administered to visual artists mostly lecturers at Margaret Trowell school of industrial design and fine Arts because of their longer, professional experience in the art industry in Kampala. Descriptive analysis was used for data presentation. The study subsequently identified if the low appreciation by the public can be refocused and ways how it can be refocused. In chapter one, which is mostly the introduction to the research, a more detailed interpretation is given to the existence of the low public appreciation towards visual arts in Kampala in both the introduction and background. The chapter further entails the purpose, objective, and the research questions that guided the study. In chapter two, information is compiled from different published sources. Guided by the three study objectives, more knowledge on the low appreciation to visual arts in Kampala is summed up from different views as given by the different individuals. This chapter gives detailed information on the challenges facing visual artists in Kampala in relation to the low public appreciation towards visual arts, what visual artists have done to change the low appreciation towards visual arts? Have these ways been influential? And what ways visual artists think can refocus public appreciation towards the arts in Kampala. Chapter three gives a clear stand for the methods used in the collection of the research findings in chapter four. This chapter will present the methodology which is used to carry out the study. It also further describes the type and source of data, the target population and sampling methods and techniques that are used to select the sample size. It also describes how data is collected and analyzed and also introduces the research findings and analysis of the research report, compiling responses and data collected from ten respondents who included lecturers at MTSIFA who filled in questionnaires handed out to them and some of the respondents were interviewed. ItemKitchen settings in Makerere University( 2018-05) Atuhaire, CynthiaA kitchen is a room used for cooking and food preparation with other related tasks. The evolution of the kitchen is linked to the invention of the cooking range or stove and the development of water infrastructure. Food was cooked on open fire, a technic of heating food in the early centuries. The fire place was typically on the floor, placed at a wall, sometimes raised a little bit, such that one had to kneel in order to cook. Among the Europeans, the kitchen was placed between the entrance and fireplace while sometimes; they were put in a separate sunken floor building to keep the main building. The romans did there cooking in large public kitchens. The ancient Greece, the kitchen rooms were arranged around a central courtyard for women; however, the open patio served as the kitchen. In the middle ages, the kitchens were divided based on the types of food preparation. These early buildings had a hole in the roof through which smoke could escape, which acted as a chimney. The first known stoves in Japan found in the Kofun period, called Komado, typically made out of clay, mortar and fired with wood or charcoal through the hole in front and the hole in the top. The kitchen remained largely unaffected by architectural advances throughout the middle age; open fire remained the only method of heating food (smoke kitchen). However, the smoke kitchen remained common especially in the rural farm houses, as they didn’t have a separate kitchen from the living room thus begun to serve as an area for social functions, and increasingly became a showcase for the owners’ wealth. Technology advances brought major changes in the kitchen. Iron stoves, which enclosed the fire completely and were more efficiently developed than the earlier stoves designed around 1800.
