    Abstract
This study was developed to assess the state drug abuse and its effects on the academic performance and transgression among students in Makerere University School of Statistics. In this study‟ the researcher realized that many students get involved in acts of drug abuse while at campus which in the end forces them in acts of transgression which include organizing and participating in strikes, dodging lectures, theft in hostels, raping fellow students among others. However, there seems to be little efforts to control or minimize this problem. The study looked at the drug abuse situation among students at campus, how different groups of students and lecturers are affected by this act of drug abuse. It also analyzed the relationship between drug abuse, academic performance and transgression among students and how to reduce on the level of drug abuse among students. The main objective is to examine the effects of drug abuse on academic performance and transgression among students. The study established that drug abuse led to low academic performance among students and subsequently led to transgression among students. The study recommends that Universities should have a strong drug policy and that all Universities should require drug test reports from recognized clinics/hospitals so as to discourage use of drugs at the campus. And finally the government should make efforts to control tobacco smoking in the country as that is the gateway to drug abuse and parents to be vigilant and keep an eye on the company/ activities of their children.
