Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the advantages and challenges tutors and students faced during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown with specific focus on the Department of Performing Arts and Film of Makerere University. This study used a qualitative case study design coupled with the interview method, direct observation and document analysis. The findings revealed different problems that students faced during the Covid-19 lockdown such as data costs, difficulty to adapt to online learning immediately after the traditional classroom-learning environment, conflicts over learning spaces with other family members or friends, network problems among others. However, students suggested solutions to the problems such as seek help, create a to-do list, inform family members about the schedule among others. The findings of the study will hopefully help the lecturers and students adapt to online teaching and studying as a technological advancement in the education system. It is hoped that this study will be benefited to researchers who will carry out similar studies in future.
