The role of the Uganda communication commission in promoting the film industry, a case study in Kampala film festival
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find to find out the role of Ugandan film festival in promoting Ugandan film industry; to find out the perception of film makers towards Uganda communications commission, to find out how film makers have benefited from Ugandan film festival, to find out how Ugandan film festival has changed the image and reputation of the film industry.
The Ugandan communications commission has done a lot to promote the Ugandan film industry but has been failed among the reasons by Ugandan film makers who have a different perception about it some which are political social and economic, that’s why the researcher carried out this study to find out the role of Ugandan film festival developing the film industry?
The study was descriptive in nature and it involved qualitative methods of data collection which were administered through interviews to guide the collection of data. The total sample comprised of two groups which were Ugandan film festival officials and film makers sampling was used where the researcher went to Ugandan film festival and personally collected data from variety of film makers
Primary data was obtained from library materials, textbooks, internet, and published journals. Data analysis was carried out through concentration on content and narrative analysis of data that was obtained from the field
Findings reveled that despite the fact that Ugandan film festival efforts to promote the film industry in Uganda, the film makers have a bad attitude towards it, which are mostly political, economic and social that has failed Ugandan film festival to operate well in developing the industry.
In conclusions, the film makers and artists should very much change the attitude towards the Ugandan film festival and work hand in hand with this organization to develop the film industry because it has tried to improve the film industry unless the negative energies exhibited by some of the film makers who have their personal motives hence influencing the rest members in the industry
