Abstract
The creative process in the performing arts often demands intense emotional engagement, which can significantly impact the mental and emotional well-being of artists. In the Moment of Doing: Interrogating Artists’ Emotional Health through Dancing and Dance Musicking explores the intersection of artistic performance and emotional health. By focusing on dance and its accompanying musical practices, the study investigates how artists experience, process, and expresses emotions during performance. It aims to provide insights into the psychological challenges faced by performers and offer strategies to support their emotional well-being in high-pressure creative environments. This research contributes to a growing dialogue about mental health in the arts, highlighting the need for holistic approaches to sustaining artistic practice. This chapter describes the background of study exploring the problem statement, the purpose, research objectives, research questions, the scope and the conceptual framework.
