Abstract
This study was carried out in Kampala aimed at exploring the factors influencing staff retention and on-job performance.
The main objective of the study was to determine the factors influencing retention and on-job performance of staff in selected hotels, Kampala, Uganda.
The specific objectives were: To determine the effect of flexible work environment on staff retention and on- job performance, to examine the influence of compensation on staff retention and on-job performance, to determine the influence of career development on staff retention and on-job performance.
Data was collected using questionnaires from 3 selected hotels in Kampala.
The study showed that staffs were not offered a good bonus pay in addition to their salary. The study therefore recommends that the organization provides bonus pay to the staffs.
Studies show that hotels during the year under appraisal and unspoken expectation is that these bonus pays will be a factor in motivating staff's performance thus the hotels may benefit from offering it's staffs such rewards.
