Selected Monumental Sculpture in Kampala mainly a case study of Nantawetwa.

Abstract

This study assessed the analysis of selected monumental sculptures in Kampala a case study of Nantawetwa monument. The objectives were to review the nature of Nantawetwa monument, to analyze the meaning of Nantawetwa monument, to analyze the impacts of the monument on the lives of the people of Kampala and to find possible ways of bringing to awareness the monumental sculptures to the people of Kampala. The data for the study comprised of both primary and secondary data. The researcher’s primary data collection methods and tools included the use of questionnaires and interview guides. Simple random sampling techniques were used. The study revealed the location, meaning and impact of the Nantawetwa monument where they said that it was found in Rubaga, it was a walk way for the Kabaka which meant respect and obedience to the king of Buganda. It was found out the most of the respondents did not know much about the Nantawetwa monument. Many were not able to correctly interpret the monument and its importance to the public. A situation of this nature can lead to misleading people with invalid information. From the administrated study, it was found out that, there are both positive and negative impacts and they are for study purposes, tourism, identification of the kingdom and none Buganda see it as a cultural threat.
