    Assessment of knowledge, perception and attitude of the community towards MTN mobile savings and credit platform (MoKash) : a case study of Bwaise in Kampala District

    Abstract
    The main objective of the study was to assess the knowledge, perception and attitude of the community towards MOKASH. However, the research also set out to find out the social-demographic characteristics of the MOKASH users in Bwaise, Kampala District and furthermore factors (variables) that influence the use of MOKASH. This study was carried from Bwaise Parish, Kawempe Division in Kampala District. Fisher’s method of sampling was used, thus obtaining a sample of 50 respondents. The researcher used both primary and secondary data. Data was collected using structured questionnaires. These consisted of open ended and close ended questions. Later, data was compiled, entered and analyzed using SPSS (version 16.0) together with Microsoft Excel and further analyzed systematically in response to the objectives of the study. Results of the study showed that; out of the 50 respondents to whom copies of the questionnaires were administered, majority (60 %) were males, majority of the respondents were single (62%) and most (55%) of the respondents were between 20-24 years of age. Furthermore, most of the users of MOKASH in Bwaise acquired secondary (55%) as their highest level of education. Study results also showed that most of the users of MOKASH use it because it is easy to use (58%) and on the other hand, the majority of the users of MOKASH in Bwaise said that MOKASH service is cheaper than traditional banking services (86%). And also showed that best benefit that MOKASH users in Bwaise get from this service is the fact that its time saving (49%). The regression results showed a statistically significant positive relationship between the age, education and the amount of money borrowed by MOKASH users in Bwaise, Kampala District (MOKASH Usage) in this study since its P-value is less than 0.05.
