dc.description.abstract This study investigates the causal relationship between the GDP growth rate and the unemployment rate using Granger causality tests. The analysis is based on time series data from 1991 to 2021 to investigate the relationship between GDP growth rates and unemployment rates. The results indicate no significant Granger-causal relationship in either direction: the unemployment rate does not Granger-cause the GDP rate (χ² = 0.65402, p = 0.721), and the GDP rate does not Granger-cause the unemployment rate (χ² = 3.4608, p = 0.177). These findings imply that past values of the GDP rate do not contain predictive information about future values of the unemployment rate, and vice versa. Consequently, the study suggests that policymakers should consider implementing separate and targeted economic policies for GDP growth and unemployment reduction, as improvements in one are not necessarily indicative of improvements in the other. This includes diversifying economic policy focus, strengthening social safety nets, and promoting inclusive economic growth through targeted job creation programs and support for innovation and entrepreneurship. The study acknowledges limitations such as the assumptions of linear relationships in the Granger causality test and recommends future research to include non-linear models and additional macroeconomic variables to better understand the complex interactions between these economic indicators. The results underscore the importance of a nuanced approach to economic policy that recognizes the independent dynamics of GDP and unemployment rates. en_US
