dc.description.abstract This study examines the impact of technology on songwriting among youth in Kampala, Uganda, examining the types of technology used, the influence of digital tools on songwriting techniques, and the effective utilization of technology in songwriting. The study employed a qualitative approach, gathering data through interviews and surveys with songwriters in Kampala. The research reveals that songwriters have widely adopted technology (such as Logic Pro, Pro Tools, FL Studio, and Ableton Live) in their creative process, utilizing digital audio workstations (DAWs) and mobile apps to record, store, and publish their work. The study demonstrates that technology has transformed the songwriting process, enabling songwriters to publish their work on social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and X App. The research establishes that songwriters in Kampala have benefited financially from technology, earning royalties from streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube. However, the study also highlights the challenges faced by songwriters, including navigating the digital landscape and competing with other artists. Despite these challenges, the findings emphasize that technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity for songwriters. In conclusion, this study underscores the critical role of technology in songwriting, demonstrating its impact on the creative process, marketing, and financial sustainability. The findings have implications for the music industry, highlighting the need for songwriters to develop skills in using digital tools and navigating online platforms. This research contributes to the understanding of technology's role in shaping the music industry and provides insights into the experiences of songwriters in Kampala. en_US
