Gender equality in painting at MTSIFA in Makerere University

Abstract

The study entirely investigated the gender equality in painting at MTSIFA in Makerere university. Other purposes were to investigate how students at MTSIFA perform in painting, to access the impacts of painting to MTSIFA students and to find out the significances. A total sample of 78 students were randomly selected and all were full time under graduate students. percentage of male students was 42.3 and 57.7 for female students. The study used a descriptive research design with the help of quantitative research approach. 78 similar questionnaires were used for data collection, the questionnaire had three sections namely (year of study, sex, age, section A) Like scale of response choices on frequency of female students, frequency of male students, percentage of female and male students in section B, Section C had closed end questions whereby respondents had to tick or circle only one desired choice on each question. The responses were analyzed using a descriptive method, statistics of frequencies and percentages. Results indicated that painting is so important to students at MTSIFA. They apply it in various aspects of life related to academics such as art exhibitions, business staffs such painting people’s portraits. However, painting has negative impacts on gender equality on painting student’s academics life such as developing biases on other course units such as print making and illustration, fashion and ceramics. So there should be balance in gender equality in painting at MTSIFA more time should be created to advise girls and boys about the importance of paintings for academic purposes to boast gender equality in painting at MTSIFA.
