dc.description.abstract The study assesses the contribution of deejays to the entertainment industry in kampala, uganda, with reference to deejays babaz and bamos. The specific objectives of the study were: 1) understanding the nature of deejaying business in kampala; 2) tracing the historical background of deejaying business in kampala and 3) examining the contribution of deejays to the entertainment industry in kampala. The study employed the qualitative research methodology involving conducting interviews with two deejays: Babaz and bamos. A smartphone was used to record the conversation (dialogue) during the interviews using an application called „sound recorder‟ and notes were written down on a notebook. Deejays get their work through gigs got from their friends, bar owners, managers and so on. They work at events, television and radio stations, among others. Although deejays are going through a number of challenges, including being undermined, being paid less money, harshness from clients (employers), problem in booking a place for a gig and competition, they play a crucial role towards the entertainment industry in kampala. They introduce new music to the audience or people, promote artists‟ music through playing it on television and radio stations, bars and parties among other places they work from. Deejays as well promote branding of either the artists or even the radio and tv stations where they work from. en_US
