Abstract
The major objective of this study was to find out the performance and competitiveness of SMEs in Kyabugimbi Sub-county, Bushenyi District. The sample based on a sample of 30 respondents’ primary data was used to find out the performance of SMEs in Kyabugimbi Sub-county. The methodology that was used during the study elaborates the area of the study, population of the study, research design, research instruments used and methodology of analysis. According to the results majority of SMEs are operated by males as compared to females. Most of the respondents are married and most of the enterprise owners employ very few people. The study also established results that show how these enterprises compete and how they perform. Majority of these enterprises compete by getting assistance in form of loans from financial institutions such as banks Sacco’s. a number of recommendations were suggested aiming at improving the performance and competitiveness of SMEs, extending financial assistance inform of loans to SMEs.
