| dc.description.abstract | With the continuous development of China's film and television industry, martial arts themed productions have gained widespread influence both in China and internationally. Among the various elements of Wuxia culture, the image of the “Daxia” (Great Hero) stands out as one of the most representative characters in Chinese film and television dramas. A Daxia is not only characterized by outstanding martial arts skills, but also embodies the traditional Chinese values of chivalry, such as helping the weak, valuing loyalty and friendship, and showing a strong sense of responsibility toward the nation and society. Therefore, studying the image of the Daxia in Chinese film and television dramas is of great significance for understanding traditional Chinese culture and its modern dissemination. This study takes the image of the Daxia in Chinese film and television dramas as the research object. By adopting literature review, textual analysis, and case study methods, the paper systematically examines the cultural origins, types, artistic representations, and cultural values of the Daxia image. First, from a historical and cultural perspective, the study explores the origin and development of chivalric culture in China and analyzes the main characteristics and core values of the Daxia image in traditional Chinese literature. Second, the paper categorizes the Daxia image in film and television dramas into several types, including the highly skilled martial hero, the patriotic hero devoted to the country, the hero who values both loyalty and righteousness, and the modernized new hero. It further analyzes their distinctive traits and narrative roles. Third, the study discusses the artistic techniques used in portraying the Daxia image, including character development, narrative structure, visual language, action design, as well as music and scene construction. Furthermore, through case studies of classic film and television adaptations of works by famous Wuxi writers such as Jin Yong and Gu Long, as well as contemporary martial arts dramas, the paper explores the evolution and innovation of the Daxia image across different periods. Finally, the study examines the cultural value and contemporary significance of the Daxia image in inheriting the spirit of chivalry, shaping social values, and promoting Chinese culture on a global scale. The research finds that the Daxia image in Chinese film and television dramas not only represents the essence of wuxia culture but also serves as an important carrier of traditional Chinese values. In the context of modern society, the image of the Daxia continues to evolve, preserving traditional chivalric ideals while incorporating contemporary values and reflecting the characteristics of the new era. Keywords: Daxia image; Wuxia culture; Chinese film and television dramas; chivalric spirit; cultural value. | |
