The role of church music in community upbringing All Saints Cathedral Nakasero

Abstract

This study investigates the role of church music in community upbringing. To achieve this, the researcher identified All Saints Church members, from three groups and these groups were the children, the youth ministry, and the clergy from All Saints Church, Nakasero, using a purposive sampling technique. The objectives of study were to examine the role of church music in community upbringing at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, to assess how church music influences moral and spiritual development within communities, to analyze the contribution of church music to social cohesion and integration, to examine the role of church music in preserving and transmitting cultural identity. I employed a qualitative research methodology for data collection. In using this methodology, such as in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and document review. Audio-visual recording, note-taking, participate observation helped me interact with my informants to share their experiences about the topic of study with relevant information. The study confirms that church music brings people together in worship, fellowship, and celebration. It nurtures moral and spiritual growth. Songs in church are not only artistic expressions but also carriers of biblical teachings. Through lyrics, believers learn values such as honesty, forgiveness, and compassion. Furthermore, church music empowers youth to gain confidence and leadership skills through participation in choirs, bands, and worship teams. They learn discipline, responsibility, and teamwork while discovering their talents. Church music promotes peace and emotional healing by teaching people how to calm emotions and bring hope during difficult times. In communities facing challenges such as poverty, conflict, or loss, church music provides encouragement and strength.
