Factors affecting women's access to UWEP case study:Ibanda district.

Abstract

This study investigates the factors that affect women’s access Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) Ibanda district. Three sub-counties within Ibanda were considered for this research. Specifically, the study was conducted in the sub-counties of Nyabuhikye, Kagongo and Rukiri considering a sample of 73 women out of the 80. Specific objectives for this paper were: to establish the relationship between education level and women’s access to UWEP, and to identify the relationship between awareness about UWEP and women’s access to UWEP in Ibanda district. The study involved use of both qualitative and quantitative methods and data was collected using face-to-face- questionnaires. Data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics.

The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between the awareness about UWEP and UWEP subscription (p-value <0.05) and there was relationship between as age of the respondents and UWEP subscription (p-value>0.05). Findings also indicated that there is positive relationship between education level and UWEP subscription. (P-value <0.05)

The study recommended that a lot of sensitization through radios and public gatherings should be done to make the public aware of the services provided by UWEP. Furthermore, trainings in different entrepreneurial disciplines should be done at all levels to equip women with skills so as to benefit from UWEP services.
