dc.description.abstract Asthma affected an estimated of 339 million people globally in 2019 and caused 461000 deaths according to The Global Asthma Report of 2018. If uncontrolled, asthma can not only cause disability but also shorten life expectancy. Asthma is often underdiagnosed and under-treated, particularly in low-income and middleincome countries and this is why most asthma-related deaths occur in such countries . Uganda is growing at an urbanization rate of 5.41% annually making it second in the world to Burundi. The prevalence of asthma is in this case expected to grow as a result of underdiagnosis, undertreatment, exposure to air pollution, and unhygienic living conditions, especially in lowincome communities which may contribute to a higher frequency and severity of symptoms of asthma among the poor. Asthma attacks are mainly attributed to environmental issues. With architecture as a built environment, Uganda has inadequate asthma treatment facilities and even those available do not meet the specific needs of asthmatics This research aims at studying how architectural design can aid in the recovery of asthmatics. The research studies asthma treatment facilities in Uganda in order to establish their design attributes. This will inform the recommendations for future design of such facilities. This can include measures such as good air circulation and filtration, proper humidity control, and the use of materials that do not produce harmful emissions or irritants. Additionally, designing spaces that promote physical activity and relaxation, such as parks and green spaces, can also be beneficial for people with asthma. Additionally, making sure that emergency services are easily accessible and prominently located in the building can help people with asthma in case of an emergency. Architectural design can also play an important role in the healing process of asthmatics by providing a healthy and safe indoor environment. Proper design can help to minimize asthma triggers and improve overall well-being for asthma patients. For example, good air circulation and filtration, temperature and humidity control, and the use of low-emitting materials can help to reduce the risk of asthma symptoms. en_US
