Abstract
The use of polyethylene terephthalate(PET) plastics being on the rise, many processing companies have found a fortune as they are used as packaging materials, Maganjo Grain Millers not being an exception.
At Maganjo, they are blown from prefoams to come up with the bigger bottles, however, most of the bottles formed, come as damage. Therefore this research looked into what was the cause.
Various parameters such as compressive yield strength, tensile yield strength, thickness and cross sectional weight distribution were factored in comparison with other locally made PET bottles.
It was discovered that, there was a non uniform cross sectional weight distribution of the bottles formed after moulding. Therefore care was emphasised while designing moulds to prevent excessive variation in mold wall thickness.
