Correlates of emotional violence against men in Northern Uganda

Abstract

Emotional violence is a form of violence that directly affects somebody’s feelings of self –worth and independence. It is usually experienced in relationships whereby someone is in an emotionally abusive relationship. According to the Cambridge dictionary, emotional violence refers to actions or words intended to hurt people or extremely forceful actions intended to hurt people or are likely to cause damage The study used Secondary Data, the study was based on an already conducted study the Uganda Demographic Health Survey (2016) which was conducted by Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS). The software used for data analysis was StataSE-15. The variables that were used were obtained from the UDHS Dataset and thus both univariate and bivariate analysis was carried out. The level of significance was fixed at a value of 0.05 There was a statistical association between marital status of the male and emotional violence faced by men in Northern Uganda (p<0.005). There was no statistical association between emotional violence and wealth index, education levels of the male and the age of the male given the results found were p>0.005.
