dc.description.abstract Using Uganda National Theatre as a case, this research examines the implications of low audience attendance on the development of conventional theatre in Uganda. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, specifically an explanatory sequential design, combining quantitative surveys with 20 audience respondents and qualitative interviews with 15 key respondents, including practitioners and cultural officers. Key objectives included identifying factors behind declining attendance, assessing its impact on theatre development, and exploring revitalization strategies. Findings revealed that poor infrastructure, high ticket prices, and competition from digital media were primary barriers to attendance. These factors have led to reduced production quality, limited artistic innovation, and weakened cultural relevance. The study recommends infrastructure modernization, targeted digital marketing, culturally relevant programming, and stronger partnerships with educational and private institutions. It concludes that strategic interventions are essential to revitalize Uganda’s conventional theatre and preserve its role in cultural and social development. en_US
