Assessing the impact of maintenance on the building service life of earth structures.

Abstract

Earth-built structures are one of the cheapest and most affordable form of housing for low-income earners, especially in rural areas. Despite them possessing that advantage, they are built not following any standards such as material testing which are encountered in masonry-built structures and this imposes them to deterioration depending on how they are maintained over a period of time. With this kind of building technique being despised to be for the poor who can`t afford masonry structures, there is a need to exercise high-level maintenance on these earth-built structures as a way of providing affordable and decent housing to low-income earners such as the locals of Muziza parish. This report Assess the impact of maintenance on the service life of mud-pole structures within Muziza parish, Ishongororo S/C Ibanda district. The five-chapter report has chapter 1 with Introduction to Earth-built structures, chapter 2 with Literature review, chapter 3 covers methodology of the study, chapter 4 has presentation and discussion of the results and chapter 5 summarizes the Findings of the study, Conclusions and Recommendations.
