A motor vehicle garage management information system for Glory General Engineering Company Ltd

Abstract

Studies have indicated that, ―Automation is a tool that can be used to facilitate records management and archival functions. In other words, automation is the use of machines or systems to perform tasks normally performed or controlled by people.‖

The main significance of this research is to find a solution to the problems related to use of manual systems of data entry, storage and retrieval at a motor works Company called Glory General Engineering Company Limited (GGECL) located in Lusaze off Ssentema road. Although people think better than computers, automating a system usually done manually by people can result into a big positive impact on the works done, as tasks are completed faster and more efficiently and quicker decision making as a plus.

Through document review, Key Informant Interviews as data collection methods, data was collected about the general works of GGECL, challenges faced by management, costs incurred during the whole process of data Entry and retrieval, and therefore the data analyzed and interpreted.

The solution to the problem was to incorporate a new system that can mitigate some of the management challenges by automating the manual system, and so a website with a database was designed using MySQL, PHP, JAVA, HTML and deployed to 00webhost.com

According to GGECL, the system runs well and has improved the management decisions and made processes easier.
