Abstract
This study examined the marketing and promotional strategies used by the VIPI Band in Kampala’s music industry. The study aimed to identify the strategies employed by the band, assess their effectiveness, and examine the challenges encountered in promoting the band. A qualitative research approach was adopted using interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Study participants involved members of the VIPI Band and other individuals involved in the band’s activities. Additional data were gathered through observations of the band performances and audio-visual analysis. The findings revealed that the VIPI Band uses social media marketing, branding, live performances, networking, and word-of-mouth promotion to market its services. These strategies have increased the band’s visibility, audience engagement, and performance opportunities. However, the band faces challenges such as limited financial resources and stiff competition within Kampala’s music industry. The study concludes that effective marketing and promotional strategies have contributed significantly to the growth and recognition of the VIPI Band. It recommends that other performing bands should strengthen their digital marketing efforts, branding, and collaborations to enhance their competitiveness and sustainability in Uganda’s music industry.
