dc.description.abstract The cost of road development in Uganda has been increasing over the past decade. Therefore there is need to investigate contributory factors to the rise in cost by considering cost inputs for paving a 1km of a road. Pallisa-Kamonkoli, which is a national road, was chosen as the case study since it was under construction at the time of the research. The section was upgraded from gravel to bituminous standard with overall length of 44 km. The objective was to determine the unit rate for paving one kilometer of road using the data from the study section. Material, equipment and labour input requirements were obtained and used to develop a unit rate for paving a km of road using quantity surveying techniques. The thesis yielded 1,799,839,800 UGX shillings for paving a km considering; 606,454,900UGX shillings machine rates, 1,193,170,400 UGX shillings material rates and 214,500 UGX shilling labour rates. en_US
