dc.description A research report submitted to the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Hospitality of Makerere University.
dc.description.abstract This study investigates the feasibility and potential impact of establishing a butterfly breeding greenhouse as a tourism attraction in the Zikka Forest region, focusing on perceived demand, operational requirements, challenges, and sustainable practices. Utilizing a comprehensive survey, the research captures community sentiment, tourist interest, and environmental considerations. Findings reveal a moderate awareness of existing tourism offerings, with 72.5% of respondents believing that a butterfly greenhouse could enhance local tourism potential. The study emphasizes the importance of specific environmental conditions for butterfly breeding and highlights significant technical requirements, including knowledgeable staff and infrastructure with climate control. Challenges identified, such as environmental variability, regulatory compliance, economic constraints, and community acceptance, underscore the need for strategic planning and stakeholder engagement. The research advocates for a sustainable operational framework that integrates renewable energy practices, efficient water management, and community involvement to minimize environmental impacts and promote eco-tourism. Recommendations for future actions are proposed, including market awareness campaigns, ongoing educational programming, and rigorous evaluation mechanisms.
