An investigation on the contribution of Boda bodas to the transport sector. A case study of Wandegeya, Kampala Uganda.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of boda bodas to the transport sector. The study identified the location of boda bodas in wandegeya and characterized them. The study adopted mixed method research design with both qualitative and quantitative methodology approaches. The study used stratified sampling with a sample size of 40 participants for both riders and passengers in wandegeya. The study also adopted saturation and clustered sampling during the research study. Data was collected through observations, surveys, interviews, photography, mapping, and review of previous reports and documents. Data analysis was done using qualitative methods like thematic analysis and quantitative methods using Microsoft excel and SPSS. The study findings showed the locations of boda boda stages through the maps, characteristics of boda boda stages like their accessibility, informal and unplanned structures, and their tendency of being located near hubs, among others. The study also examined the contributions of boda bodas to the transport sector like accessibility, flexibility, bridges gaps with public transport, safety on the road. This study finding show how greatly the boda boda operations influence the transport sector both positively and negatively.
