dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the study was to find out the effect willingness to contribute for safe water provision on effective contribution in Adekokwok sub county, Lira district. The research mainly focused on a sample of 106 households which was got using simple random technique which was purposively where extensive quantitative research was conducted by use of questionnaires and observation. The study assessed the socio-demographic factors, the economic factors and users’ attitudes and perceptions on contribution for maintenance and operation. The data obtained was captured in excel and analysis was done in SPSS. Univariate analysis was carried out mainly using frequency tables since most of the variables were categorical data, bivariate analysis was also done where chi-square distribution was used and conclusions were made at 5% level of significance. From multivariate analysis, it is indicated that, education level of the person, lack of community contribution, source of income, lack of trust in the water user committee and existence of a female on the WUC that are significant predictors of willingness to contribute to safe water provision while gender, age of the user, source of income, distance to water source, type of technology are not. In conclusion, local collective action is key to improving the probability of willingness to contribute and therefore good governance should be supported in order to improve local collective action of the water users. en_US
